The cell phones have taken over. The cell phone is now our entertainment, our library, our phone, our internet, and our life leash. We can’t survive without our precious phone. I’ve lived from 75-present. I’ve seen the phones turn from operator assisted dialing, car phones, bag phones, brick phones with antennae, block phones, flip phones, and the I-phones. I’ve seen the entire lifeline of the cell phone. I was a beeper kid. I knew what this technology was before it was so popular. This poem explores the phone history and questions what it all means.
Cell phone hysteria
It was a normal day in the 80's and I saw a man with a phone connected to a bag on Rodeo Drive. In the 90's, buying a cell phone for a person wasn't kind or thoughtful. On the contrary, we would all say they are putting a leash on you. That's not a loving gesture, its a red flag of an abusive relationship. Now there is no leash, but we're all connected. We're all leashed to the almighty phone. The current thinking is there is no life without a phone. At bus stops - QR codes tell you their route. For Taxis - Access codes to ride the UBER Currently - without a phone you are on the outside-you're disconnected from society. What are you missing? What posts are you missing? What videos are you missing? How do you know where to drive? Where is your phone? A woman beat and beat on a pilot, because he wouldn't turn the plane around to get her phone. The digital machine dictates our every movement. We are all still on a leash, and everything we do is on the phone. Everyone's connected but we're all alone.
What do you think of the phone situation? Are you nay or yea on these devices? Do you have any thoughts on this mobile revolution? Are we more connected or are we all alone?
